  • Non Executive Chairman and investor in COFFEE NATION - the leading Gourmet coffee drinks vending company supplying people ‘on the go’ through chains such as Tesco, Moto, Sainsbury and Welcome Break. (CURRENT),

  • Non Exec assessment assignment for THE VENDING CORPORATION, a leading European distributor of vending machines on behalf of private equity investors Beringea, and provided guidance on next round of investment. Nov/Dec 2007

  • Executive Chairman of CLAIMS MANAGEMENT GROUP (CMGL), a 600 person £41m turnover insurance services company which manages over 165,000 claims worldwide, representing in excess of $4.7 billion in gross liabilities and $1.1 billion reinsurance recoverables. The company administers 8 Lloyd's syndicates representing £0.9 billion of open year capacity. The company transacts RITC deals to acquire run-off insurance portfolios and is current industry holder of the 'Run-Off Provider of the Year' award. This assignment was successfully completed in April 2007 with the turnaround of the company's performance and the sale of the company to Capita PLC for £32m, returning a significant multiple of investment to my investors, Sovereign Capital.

  • Non-Executive Chairman of LAMBOURN, a well known Lloyd's London Broker which also provides Business Process Outsourcing to the Lloyd's Market and back office support to London Market companies and Lloyd's Managing Agencies. Completed March 2007.

  • Group Chief Executive of VISTA INTERNATIONAL, a 120 people, £12m turnover IT managed services and software solutions company for the publishing industry, based in London and New York, for 3i who I successfully exited in January 06.

  • Interim Chief Executive of APPIAN TECHNOLOGY PLC, an AIM listed CCTV, Automatic Vehicle Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and Car Park navigation systems company.

  • Non-Executive Chairman of HOMEPRO, an insurance company for investors, Atlas Venture. (Company turned around and sold in August 2003). The brief was to assess pipe-line and operating methods and to support the CEO in determining strategy and implementing key programmes. I also supported the CEO with difficult customer deals and in the rebuilding of relationships with investors.

  • Interim Chief Executive of KNOWLEDGE TECHNOLOGIES INTERNATIONAL (KTI), an engineering design software and managed services business of 110 people and $18m turnover based in UK, USA, Germany and France – for Electra Europe. (Successful turnaround – made profitable for 8 months and then sold the company in Nov’02 to a large French public company) Example customers were Boeing, Airbus, Embraer, Ford, Jaguar, and Chrysler.

  • Non-Executive Chairman of EMS, a 90 person telecoms managed services and software company based in New Zealand and UK – for 3i. (Company sold to New Zealand VC investors, February’03) The main customer was BT who was the reseller of the company’s network security product. The company provided the outsourced security systems hosting and management.

  • Interim Non-Executive Chairman of OXYGEN/CONNECTIONS PLUS, a 400-person call-centre business in Leeds, for Aberdeen Asset. The brief was to handle some very difficult board matters and oversee the sale of the company. (Company sold to management in a VC backed MBO)

  • Interim Non-Executive Chairman of HOGART BVG, a 200 person ERP software solutions and services company in Poland – for Advent International. The company represented Sun Systems, JD Edwards, Oracle and Cognos in Poland. This assignment was to evaluate the problems of the company and to get the management team focussing on restructuring and guiding them on the implementation of their re growth programmes. Also, to bring some corporate methodologies into their operations. Key was helping them rebuild confidence with their institutional investors.

  • Interim Chief Executive of INTERLINK, an e-banking and retail banking software and services company of 125 people and £15m turnover - For CR2 and European venture capital firms GIMV, NIB and ACT) - Successful turnaround completed 24th December 2000.

  • Non-Executive Chairman of MONNET, a London based telecoms software company for 3i, completed Sept 2001. The company specialised in middleware software for dialling performance monitoring.

  • Interim Group Chief Executive of FLEXIBLE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS (FMS), a 200 people, high value banking software and services company in the UK, France and Germany for 3i – Successful turnaround completed November 1999.

EUROPEAN SOFTWARE PUBLISHING

Executive Chairman (4 years 4 months) April ‘95 to July ‘99

  • CEO turning around and rebuilding a company specialising in VC backed incubator start-up ventures for USA software companies and in developing Internet/Intranet/e-commerce applications.

  • Leading a board comprising senior people from international private equity investors including Hambros, Advent International and Atlas Venture.

  • Brought numerous big names to UK as incubator start-up ventures.

  • Successfully sold the company to a USA company in which I still have a significant investment.

  • Working on behalf of the presidents of three large international computer companies in re-organising their sales and subsidiary businesses across Europe. (Data General, Wang/Getronics and McDonnell Douglas)

  • Full P&L responsibility for the Line-of-Business encompassing direct and indirect sales of desktop level systems, PCs, UNIX, and mainframe systems.

  • Built a $500m UNIX, PC, and Client/Server Workstation business through over 1000 Dealers, Distributors, Systems Houses and Direct Sales units across Europe and Africa.

  • Distribution Control Manager, Ranks Hovis McDougall. Controlling storage and distribution of a wide range of branded consumer food products from 14 factories through 25 distribution centres to UK’s leading retailers such as Sainsbury and Tesco.

  • Merchandise Control Manager, Argos. Controlling 2,500 consumer stock lines from suppliers through the Argos distribution depots and stores. Opening new stores.
